New York's 10 Best Craft Beer Bars
Why It's Cool: This quiet Midtown East brew hall is tucked away behind the more typical Cornerstone Tavern - if you have trouble finding your way, just look for the gigantic buck on the sign outside (its motto is "All American Craft Beer With the Deer"). The bar is a bit cozier than some of the more boisterous watering holes around town, making it perfect for some serious beer-breakdown discussion. You're likely to find a lot of
options that you've never tasted before, along with a showcase of excellent labels from local producers, including River Horse Brewery from New Jersey and New York's Ommegang. If you need help navigating the list, stop by on on of Brewery Nights, when the bar features an abundance of beers from one maker.

Paste Magazine, 30 Best Beer Bars in America
I wasn’t aware of The Stag’s Head—or, frankly, the far east side of Midtown—until the pub contacted us about a party celebrating Paste’s 25 Best American Breweries. Impressively they had the vast majority on tap for the celebration, which was only mildly dampened by the blizzard that hit New York. The lodge-style bar has gotten much more adventurous in the past year, adding to the already amazing New York beer landscape. Read the full review.
Shecky's Manhattan's Best Craft Beer Bars The Stag's Head, Midtown
If you’ve ever been parched while standing behind tourists at the Apple Store, you probably thought you were screwed. No craft beer anywhere close (I doubt FAO Schwarz will ever open a bar in the basement, but we can dream). Luckily, the nearby Stag’s Head is a lifesaver in Midtown East. An oddly shaped, tight-squeeze bar in the round with plenty of restaurant seating and even a garden roof deck, The Stag’s Head always offers some adventurous selections on tap with a pretty nifty chalkboarded bottle list as well. Plus they host weekly tasting events with free thematic grub, because you just can't sample Pittsburgh beers without a hearty portion of scrapple.
Edible Manhattan, Stills on the Move: Creating a Buzz
Xan Garcia, general manager of Stag’s Head, a dark-wooded lodge-style beer bar and gastropub specializing in exclusively American-made beer and spirits—and homey dishes braised in said beer—along Midtown East, is always looking for quality local tipples to join her queue of quaffs, and Tiedge’s gin was an easy addition. She says it brings out the subtle sugar in drinks like the bar’s aptly named Bee’s Knees: lemon juice, honey, mint and Comb 9 Gin. “You get a sweetness on the back end of the taste. The honey (in the gin) adds sweetness without making it cloying,” explains Garcia, emphasizing “it’s still a gin; it’s not like gin with a little honey mixed in.” Read the full feature.

There might be a lot of "beer blasts" for boys around this town, but the emphasis is definitely more on the blast than the beer. Those looking for high-quality suds can head uptown to this cheeky Pride Week event at a serious brewski bar, featuring nine dedicated draft lines of fruit-flavored beer.

Stepping down the stairs into this cozy Midtown East bar, you might think—thanks to the dark wood, low lighting, and the flat screens tuned to soccer—that you’ve found another pub with heavily accented bartenders serving Newcastle on draft and shepherd’s pie by the plate-full. Well, you would be wrong … about the Newcastle: Stag’s Head only stocks beers from American breweries.

Who Wants Scrapple?! Hit the Stag's Head, 1.11.11
This Wednesday, Midtown East beer temple The Stag’s Head will turn over the taps to Troeg’s Craft Brewery of Harrisburg, PA. The chef at Stag’s is actually from the same area as the brewery, so he thought it would be fitting to serve a local delicacy with the brew: scrapple. In case you’re not familiar with this yummy treat, it’s essentially pork scraps and trimmings mushed into a semi-solid loaf with cornmeal and flour yum! The dish is common in Pennsylvania Dutch country where it is known as “pon haus.

Dinner with Zed at the Stag’s Head, 10.23.10
The Stag’s Head is located near 51st and 2nd Avenue, nestled between brownstones and little shops. Of course, it was already crowded on a Thursday evening at 7, therefore the first floor was out of the picture. But the air was cool and comfortable, so we opted for the second floor outdoor seating instead. I recommend Stag’s Head to anyone in favor of great food and great service, which I believe is just about everyone out there.

NY Craft Beer Week, 9.23.10
The Stag's head is one of the best beer bars in town. The bar is cozy, the atmosphere dusky and there’s a non-pretentious beer garden located on the upper level. So, what makes it different than your local, well-stocked suds hole? For starters, The Stag’s Head only serves American beers and rotating micro-brews. The bartenders are some of the most knowledgeable (and friendly) in the business. And, they specialize in can beers. That’s right. Beer served in a can is no longer just for frat houses and barbecues.

Throw down for a cause at this N’awlins-inspired bash. Louisiana’s Abita Brewing will offer six of its beers (including Andy Gator and Harvest Strawberry) for $6 a pop ($4 until 7pm). Drink up, because $2 from each beer sold will go to Louisiana Wildlife Federation’s long-term efforts in the Gulf region. For grub, expect gratis jambalaya from 6 to 8pm. Stag’s Head. 6pm–4am.
